Adoption

Many women would say "I could never do that" when they are asked if adoption is a viable option. But, for some people, adoption can be a very positive and selfless choice. It can mean that they can provide for their baby what they currently feel unable to offer. Some women find they feel uncomfortable with the idea of an abortion but still do not feel they can go on to parent the child and so in these situations, adoption can become the option a woman feels most at ease with.
When choosing the adoption process, nothing is legally binding until the baby has been born and particular documents signed so that a woman can have as much time as possible to be sure of her decision. Adoption can be very difficult because we care so much for our children. Releasing them into someone else’s care can be painful but the adoption process is designed to support and reassure a woman about who will be looking after her baby. Support will be available, at the centre, throughout the pregnancy and beyond until it is no longer required. CAREConfidential has a helpful leaflet available which includes some thoughts from those who have chosen adoption for their baby.
